The Importance of Air Conditioner Services

Why Opt For Air Conditioner Service?

Most homes in America have an air conditioning unit of some kind. Some homes have a central HVAC unit, while others have a window unit or wall unit in individual rooms.

No matter what type of air conditioner you have to service your home, you’ll need an AC technician to look at your unit and ensure it keeps running properly all year long. When AC units aren’t used over the winter, they sit dormant.

It’s a good idea to have your unit serviced before the season begins to heat up, this way you can keep it running problem-free. Read on for all the frequently asked questions related to AC services, brought to you by expert contractors.

Common Air Conditioner Parts

This is a very common FAQ, and all air conditioners have a wide variety of parts in order to work efficiently. If just one part isn’t working properly, the entire unit will function less efficiently, and depending on the part, your unit might stop working altogether.

So what are the components that your air conditioner uses? There are five parts every AC unit has including:

  • Compressor
  • Fan
  • Condenser Coil
  • Evaporator Coil
  • Chemical Refrigerant

Each one of these components is an essential part of your AC unit. Whether that translates into fluctuating temperatures or a unit that won’t work, getting immediate attention is key to protecting the components in your air conditioner.

Keep A Working AC

When an air conditioner is turned on to cool down your home, numerous processes occur simultaneously. Here’s how your AC works. The AC unit starts cooling your home by circulating air from your house through the unit and back.

The unit takes the hot air from your home and pulls it into the compressor. The refrigerant in the system absorbs the heat. A fan then blows air over the hot coil and blows the heat to the outside.

By removing heat from the air being pulled from the house, what you are left with is cool air in exchange. Hot air exits outside through the condenser unit and cool air enters your home through the inside of your unit. The two “sides” of an AC unit is known as the hot and cool side. These two sides and all the parts they use are in constant use the entire time your AC unit is on and actively cooling your home.

Always Seek Professional Help

Even though air conditioning units sound simple, they are complex machines with numerous parts and connections that all depend on each other in order to properly function.

While there are plenty of “how-to” videos by professionals on YouTube, trying to DIY your own repairs on an AC unit can be costly, time-consuming, and downright dangerous.

Air conditioning tradesmen have studied how to safely perform maintenance, repair, and installation work. They are also licensed, bonded, and insured against any damages.

If you try and fix the air conditioning unit yourself, you could void the warranty that came with your unit. If any damages occur as a result of trying to fix it, you could also be looking at paying all damages out of pocket. Homeowners insurance won’t typically cover damages due to negligence or DIY repairs when instead you could and should have a technician fix your unit, instead.
